Strategic consolidation further strengthens distribution network and retailer service
Do it Best Group will cease operations at its Montgomery, N.Y. distribution center as part of the company’s ongoing strategy to optimize its distribution network following the acquisition of True Value.
Operations at the Montgomery facility are expected to conclude in the second quarter of 2027. The decision is part of a broader, multi-year effort to integrate Do it Best and True Value and build a stronger, more efficient company. The combination brought together two significant distribution networks with opportunities to eliminate overlap, better align capacity with current and future needs, and strengthen the company’s ability to serve independent home improvement retailers.
“Bringing Do it Best and True Value together has required us to look carefully at how we operate and how we can build a more effective distribution network,” said Ty Sordelet, Vice President of Logistics at Do it Best Group. “We recognize the impact decisions like this have on our team members and the communities that have supported us, and we do not take that impact lightly. We’re talking with our Montgomery team members about roles at our Wilkes-Barre facility and offering relocation packages to eligible team members interested in making the move.”
The company is evaluating facilities across the combined network based on capacity, geography, transportation efficiencies and retailer needs. Consolidating operations where appropriate will allow Do it Best Group to make better use of its distribution assets while maintaining the scale and reach necessary to support thousands of independent retailers.
Volume currently handled by the Montgomery distribution center will transition to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. The transition is being carefully planned to maintain service continuity for retailers and ensure they continue receiving the products and support they need.
“This is about ensuring we have the right facilities, in the right locations, with the right capacity to serve our retailers today and well into the future,” said Sordelet. “Building a distribution network around those needs will allow us to operate more effectively, continue investing in our capabilities and provide the level of service our retailers need as we grow.”
Do it Best Group will continue evaluating its combined distribution network as the integration progresses, with a focus on operating efficiently, improving service and supporting the long-term success of independent home improvement businesses.
